The Retinol Manifesto: Why My Method is Always "Low & Slow"

The Retinol Manifesto: Why My Method is Always "Low & Slow"

If you know me, you know I am a Retinol Girl through and through.

But I’m not just about the results—I’m about the method.

In the world of skincare, Retinol (Vitamin A) has a reputation it no longer deserves. People fear it, misuse it, or avoid it because of myths that just aren't true.

Let’s set the record straight:

Retinol does NOT thin your skin.

In fact, it does the exact opposite.

The Science of the "Gold Standard"

Retinol is the most studied anti-aging ingredient in dermatology.
It isn't just a surface-level cosmetic fix; it’s a structural rebuild.

When used correctly, it:

• Stimulates collagen and supports elastin to improve skin density.
• Accelerates cellular turnover, helping skin behave like a younger version of itself.
• Delivers real results: Clinical studies show texture improvements of up to 50% and a 40% reduction in fine lines.

The "Too Hard, Too Fast" Trap

The biggest mistake I see? Clients going "wrong and strong."
They jump into high dosages every night, destroy their skin barrier, and then give up when their face reacts.

Irritation doesn’t accelerate results—it sets you back.

If you’re new to the game, jumping in face-first will only lead to inflammation.

My golden rule is Consistency Over Intensity.

Your "Low & Slow" Cheat Sheet
To get the glow without the blow-up, follow these non-negotiables:

1. Don't use it in the morning (UV rays degrade it).
2. Don't apply to damp or irritated skin (this increases penetration too much, too fast).
3. Don't start with a high dosage.
4. Don't quit after two weeks of "purging."

The Strategy: Once you have correct skincare regime for daytime….. start a few nights a week.

This isn't "less effective"—it’s how you build tolerance so you can eventually use it more nights than not.

When to Start?

The early 30s is the sweet spot, when skin is loosing its elasticity. But honestly? It is never too late to start rebuilding your skin structure from within.

A Note on Retinal (Retinaldehyde)

While Retinol is fantastic, its stronger sibling, Retinal, can deliver up to 35% greater wrinkle reduction. However, be aware that in Ireland, high-strength Retinal is often highly regulated or pharmacist-only. It’s powerful stuff—so respect the potency!

Fun Fact: Glow from the Inside Out

While we love a topical, you can support your Vitamin A levels through your diet too.

 Look for:
• Papaya & Pomegranate
• Carrots & Pumpkin

The Bottom Line

Retinol is a marathon, not a sprint.

There are no miracle overnight results, but with a "Low and Slow" approach, you’re playing the long game for smoother, firmer, and more resilient skin.
